THE OFFER

CONGRATULATIONS!

This is the beginning of the rest of your career.

There are, however, some points that need to be addressed and the team at Keillar are here to assist you.

Do not resign until you have an offer in writing - a verbal agreement is not worth the paper it's not written on!

Most offers are subject to references, including medical ones. It is generally a good idea to wait until previous employer and medical references are out of the way before allowing your new employer to contact your current one. A reference request to your existing employer is NOT the same as a resignation, although the two often occur almost simultaneously. If you are concerned about your current employer's reference then it is advisable to wait until that is out of the way as employers can sack you for looking for another job.

Resigning can be difficult, especially if you have been with your employer for a long time. We can help with letter writing and emphasising the positve reasons for your moving on. It is never a good idea to be rude or unpleasant to your ex boss or co-workers, even if they were vile, as one does not know how the employment wheel will turn in years to come!

Unless you are unemployed, there is almost always a period of limbo between accepting an offer and joining your new employer. During this period of uncertainty, your current employer might try to persuade yoiu to stay. This can take a number of forms - higher salary or promotion are often offered - though these can be dangerous to accept. They might take you out, with the subtext of 'how could you possibly leave us?'. If your reasons for leaving are valid then it can be dangerous to be persuaded back for the following reasons:

Over 70% of all people who are bought back have left within the year as the fundamental reasons for leaving have not been addressed.

Your loyalty is in question and promotion/additional training might not be available.

There are many other issues with which your Keillar consultant can assist you, so please contact us.

INTERVIEW HINTS AND TIPS

A little preparation can greatly increase your chances of success at interview.

All interviews have a similar structure, and are essentially sales presentations in which you have the opportunity to impress your potential employer.

THE PERFECT CV

Keillar Resourcing receives a large number of CVs every day of the year. This is the first contact that you will have with an employer - a well constructed CV gives the impression of a conscientious and professional candidate, whilst a badly put together CV can destroy any chance of securing an interview.
