Role:                         Discretionary Portfolio Manager

Location:                  Hertsfordshire

Remuneration:         Basic salary of c.£60-65k + discretionary bonus and benefits

 

Our client is looking to bring in-house their investment service with the appointment of an experienced Discretionary Portfolio Manager.  

  1. The investment strategies used to date have performed very well and they expect to have an on-going relationship with the current Third Party provider of Investment Research but they are also adding other 3rd party specialists to provide institutional quality investment expertise and research.
  2. At all times, the business is exclusively the portfolio manager for each client and has full discretion over each strategy as well as the operational responsibilities, etc. This fits within the “integrated” wealth proposition – all clients benefit from joined up financial planning + bespoke investment management and where appropriate, complementary private banking and business consultancy services, in line with the full family office proposition.
  3. The growth of the business has accelerated the plans to move to direct FCA authorisation this year (hopefully Q3) and this has prompted the desire to bring on-board their own portfolio manager.
  4. The ideal candidate should have strong analytical and process skills, so they are able to self-manage and drive activity to the necessary high standards without excessive oversight.
  5. This is an opportunity for a good junior PM on a desk to evolve into a principal role with the business as they add knowledge/ qualifications and prove themselves within the company.  They will add responsibilities and incentives in time.
  6. They use modern technology and working practices and therefore expect to create a very efficient, robust investment function that is at least as good as that within a private bank.

In terms of compensation, they would aim for a basic salary of c.£60-65k + discretionary bonus and benefits. Of course, if the candidate is able to bring clients and assets with them, we will have a commercial approach to rewarding them for this appropriately and likewise, if they are able to add assets to the business in future, the same principle will apply.
